BuildSys ’12 will feature a Poster and a Demo Session, which will be co-located with other SenSys workshops. This is a great opportunity to showcase your work to a wider audience.
We will also be awarding a “Best Demo” award this year.
We are particularly interested in, although not limited to, contributions related to the following topics:
Tools and Visualizations:
* To increase energy awareness and reducing energy consumption;
* Leveraging sensing systems social networking and methods for behavioral modifications towards a more parsimonious usage of electricity, gas, heating, water, etc;
* Sensor systems for NILM, and identification of appliances (e.g. signature detection, additional ambient sensors;
System Designs, Control, and Implementations:
* Monitor and actuate appliances in residential, commercial settings (HVAC, Data Center);
* Monitor and control alternative energy sources to improve production efficacy;
* Integrate sensor based systems to improve grid operation and distribution (electricity, gas, water);
* Emerging communication standards, and experiences of their deployments, for data collection from smart meters, appliances, devices and HVAC systems;
Modeling and Simulators
* Model and visualize energy expenditure and production (e.g. Solar, Wind, Geo-thermal);
* Estimate, model and predict energy usage in different settings and use that for Demand Response;
* Model and simulate HVAC, water usage and other energy flows in buildings and surrounding spaces using real data from sensors and integrating with energy simulation tools such as Energy Plus and TrnSys;
Important Dates
* Demo submission deadline: Tuesday, September 11, 2012 11:59PM PDTMonday, September 3, 2012 11:59PM PDT
* Notification of Demo Acceptance: Friday, September 21, 2012
* Camera Ready Due: Monday, October 1, 2012
* Workshop and Demo session date: November 6, 2012
Demo abstracts should describe both the technology being showcased as well as how it would be demonstrated to people. Demo abstracts have a two page limit and unlike regular BuildSys full papers, complete author information such as names, affiliations, and e-mails should be included with each demo submission. The title of the submission should start with "Demo Abstract:" Note: Demo Abstracts will appear in the conference proceedings, and hence must conform to the submission guidelines. In addition to the two page demo abstract the submission should include information (maximum a page long) describing the logistical needs for the demonstration, and a script of how the demonstration will be conducted to convey the technology and ideas to the audience. This extra page will not appear in the proceedings.
Please see the Submission page for more details.
We have configured EDAS to allow submissions upto 3 pages, 2 of which should be for the actual Demo Abstract and the third separate page should be used for the additional demo information described above.
In case of any questions, please contact the BuildSys demo chair, Yuvraj Agarwal directly over email.
