Travelling to Stanford University

Stanford University is roughly equidistant from the San Francisco (SFO) and San Jose (SJC) airports. Please note that at rush hour (7:30-9:30AM, 4:30-6:30PM) there is significant traffic throughout the Bay Area, especially along the highways that connect Stanford to these airports. A taxi from SFO is $100, $60 if you pre-arrange it from a Palo Alto company (more options can be found here). A taxi from San Jose is $60. Stanford’s website has further transportation details.

Parking and getting to campus

Local attendees will be able to park their cars in pre-allocated parking spots. If you will need a parking space, please be sure to mark so in your registration. There will be shuttles from the hotels to the conference during peak hours, and at off-times attendees can use the Stanford Marguerite shuttle to travel between campus and their lodging; this will be much faster than driving to campus.

Lodging

We have arranged for room blocks at several nearby hotels and places to stay. Each of these blocks expires at different times, so please register early! Downtown Palo Alto is a 1.5 mile walk (30 minutes) or 10 minute shuttle ride from the conference location. There will be shuttles from the hotels to the conference during peak hours, and at off-times attendees can use the Stanford Marguerite shuttle to travel between campus and their lodging. Palo Alto is expensive and does not have many hotels, so we strongly recommend reserving early at the discounted rates.

  • The Stanford Guest House (cutoff: Wednesday, September 14) is a boutique hotel that is close to SLAC (the Stanford Linear Accelerator Laboratory). This is 2.5 miles from the conference venue, and so is well suited for someone who wants a quiet place a bit out of downtown. To reserve at the discounted rate, use the code “Sensys1116”.

  • The Cardinal Hotel (cutoff: Thursday, October 13) is a local hotel in downtown Palo Alto. It is 5 blocks from where buses will pick up attendees and the Palo Alto CalTrain station (where the Stanford Marguerite shuttle stops).   • The Sheraton and Westin (cutoff: Monday, October 24) are both adjacent to the CalTrain station (where the Stanford Marguerite stops) and at the edge of downtown. Conference shuttle buses will pick up attendees at the Sheraton.
