Call for Participation:

The SenSys/BuildSys 2024 Joint Ph.D. Forum (Doctoral Colloquium) seeks to provide a friendly, supportive, and constructive environment for doctoral students to explore and develop their research interests in an interdisciplinary workshop under the guidance of a panel of distinguished researchers. The forum provides an excellent opportunity for Ph.D. students to present their dissertation research, including work in progress, to the wider embedded networked sensor systems community. This meeting offers an opportunity to share experiences with other Ph.D. students, meet with accomplished international researchers from industry and academia, and obtain their feedback.

The Ph.D. forum of BuildSys is calling for submissions from doctoral students working on advanced research topics related to energy-efficient built environments, includes but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • Integration of networked sensors and building controls
  • Cyber-physical infrastructure for smart cities
  • Data acquisition, integration, and analysis in urban environments
  • Energy-efficient systems for buildings and cities
  • Modeling and optimization for sustainable urban infrastructure

The goal of the forum is to help our community's youngest researchers achieve their full potential via feedback at a critical stage. Authors of accepted submissions are expected to participate in the Doctoral Colloquium event.

Best Ph.D. Forum Presentation Award: All presenters will be eligible to compete for the Best Ph.D. Forum Presentation Award.

  • Submission Deadline: September 27, 2024
  • Notification of Acceptance October 4, 2024
  • Camera Ready Deadline: October 7, 2024
  • Ph.D. Forum Date: November 4, 2024

Submission Details and Eligibility

Current Ph.D. students in the mid to late stages of their Ph.D. are encouraged to submit a 2-page research summary describing the work in progress and including a 100-word abstract. Things to consider for inclusion in the research summary might be: the expected contribution to the field; the original idea or thesis statement; the problem domain and the specific problem addressed; a brief overview of related work; the methodological approach; research carried out, and results till this point. Generally, Ph.D. students who have published a portion of their thesis will benefit the most from this forum. Ph.D. students of all stages are welcome to attend the forum, even if they are not at a stage where submitting an abstract makes sense.

  • The paper should be at most two pages.
  • The submission template format should follow ACM Master Article
  • emplate (with sigconf setting).
  • Submissions should not be anonymous and should have the Ph.D. student as the sole author
